- Kidney numbers are close to normal and Docs are "tickled" with his progress.
- White blood count numbers are also heading in the right direction.
- Heart rate continues to be irregular but heart is strong. Continuing with oral meds.
He has been off pain meds but after physical therapy did ask for some. Unfortunately the only pain med the nurse could give him was morphine, which is not his favorite since he feels it makes him a little "loopy." Jen also said he's still not getting enough restful sleep at night.
Do not have a definite date as to when he's getting "OUT." Jen said that Friday or early next week were both mentioned. He continues to improve and many of the internal problems are getting much better but he still has a lot of healing yet to do.

Hey Paul, not that you need added incentive, but fair warning that you'd better get what's left of your ass out of San Diego soon. The entire Byrnes clan is headed that way for Spring Break starting Saturday. Unless you want to hear about EVERY little league basketball and baseball game Hunter and Aleck have played in the last month, you should really get a move on. We'll see you soon...one way or another. Get well, buddy. Love to Kathi, Sarah and the rest of the support team!
TELL HIM FRANK WANTS TO KNOW IF HE'S SHOOTING UP...I TAKE INSULIN EVERY NITE AND WHEN WE HAVE BEEN OUT OUT TOWN WITH PAUL, HE WOULD ALWAYS ASK IN A LOUD VOICE..."DID YOU SHOOT UP YET?" THAT WOULD GET ME A FEW STARES FROM OTHER PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY...I'M THINKING ABOUT HIM EVERY DAY...FRANK
It's great to hear about Paul's progress. We've been in Cabo for the last week and thought about Paul daily! Prior to our leaving we would both check the blog several times a day waiting for updates. I was SURE Paul's kidneys would come back so it's no surprise to hear dialysis has been put-off. And it's good to hear he doesn't have to go through another surgery. It's also good to hear he's getting outside food, that hospital food isn't much better than school cafeteria food! Paul was so strong & healthy going into this and that will probably be a big asset in his recovery. Once he's home and back up and around (and can get a little perspective on everything) I'm sure Kathi will get WHAT EVER SHE WANTS after this ordeal!!! (start making your list now Kathi)! There's nothing pleasant about anything you guys are going through, but it will certainly give you lots of stories to tell. And although Paul probably knows himself that he's not physically ready to leave the hospital, I'm sure he's SERIOUS AS HELL about "breaking out." I'd say your best chance is on the weekend when nothing much happens since you just have the "on call" doctors around who don't really check in as much. And opportunites do arise. If they let Kathi take you "outside" in a wheelchair for a little fresh air, you'd be surprised how easy it is to sneak on out! (well at Overlake Hospital anyway)!
Keep on getting better and listen to the therapists. They may appear to be idiots at times, but you have to "play their game" to get out of there!
