It's early in the day but everyone is very excited/optimistic that this will be a good day for Paul!
He is breathing on his own. Yehhhhh!!! The breathing tube is still in but hopefully will be removed tomorrow.
Paul is opening his eyes a lot more (5 or so seconds at a time) and is really responding to Kathi's voice. He also is responding to commands.
He currently has a feeding tube inserted to provide extra nutrients--nope no filet mignon or ranch burger for the big guy yet.
Jen said they will call back later this afternoon/early evening with another update. This is the first time I've received an update where I could hear "cheery" people in the background. Everyone's good thoughts and prayers are working--thank you.

This is such good news. My mom was telling me when he was awake yesterday he had a mad look on his face, I think that is so fitting for him right now...he wants to be on his Harley, drinking margaritas in Mexico and eating a big steak! Well we all know Paul pretty well and know he will be back to his old self soon. Anyways he has to get well soon cuz I miss my family and friends and you guy are all just too far away. And Donna is so right, Paul will have the best cuticles when he gets back. LOL. And Sarah watch it with the Dr. McDreamy...or I will tell your boyfriend. Just kidding! Thanks again Julie..this is great!
We want you to know that we're praying long & hard for you ALL from Defiance, Iowa! Thanx, Shawn, for sharing this website. Bob, Carrie, & James

kathi, hope you'll have a chance to call me sometime--really want to know how you're holding up. Remember to keep schmoozing the hospital staff--we want them in there watching over things evey minute.
