3/8/07 4:46 Update

Hi All,

Just spoke with Kari and they are putting in a filter to stop any possible blood clots that may occur due to a) the trauma and b) his current lack of activity. This is a GREAT precaution and one I honestly can’t believe I didn’t think of since my husband was in the hospital for 8 days due to a DVT caused by lack of activity due to pneumonia.

Please keep those positive thoughts and prayers coming. Kathi is anxiously awaiting Paul to wake up and start bossing people around!

Thanks,

Julie

Not at all surprised Paul got an IVC filter. His immobility definitely puts him at risk for a DVT (deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot in the leg) and pulmonary emboli (blood clots that break free and lodge in the lungs). Since he has potential internal injuries, and will possibly have more surgery, it's unlikely they would put him on a blood thinnner to control for DVT. The filter, placed in his inferior vena cava vein -- probably just above the intersection of the major leg veins -- should keep any significant blood clots from moving from his legs to his lungs. It can stay in for no more than two months, however, then will need to be removed or replaced since Paul's body will try to make it a permanant fixture if it stays in any longer.

Julie and Shawn, this is such a good idea! I love it. I know Paul and Kathi will love reading everyone's comments later on down the road. I have known Paul my whole life and I know he is going to pull through. He will be back in his office in no time. To all of his family, I love all of you and all of you are in my thoughts. Kristy

To all of the Paul Morris immediate Family: Paul has been put on the prayer chain in 6 of the South Western Wa. Churches, and he has had several people praying Rosaries for him. St. Joseph's School in Chehalis, Wa. remembered him in their Mass this last Friday. We are storming Heaven. ---
